Bring on the cookies, crackers, pasta, and bread!

Most of you know Benji was diagnosed with Celiac disease (allergy to gluten) just before he turned 2. Since then, he's been on a gluten free diet (which I might add is not cheap). Well, the GI doc said he wasn't 100% sure he had it since he also had an ulcer, which showed up in same spot as celiac would (small intestine), but was fairly certain. He did say though that it was too risky to take him off the diet at that time, which is the only way to know for certain. It could have affected his development to take him off then, so he said to wait until he was at least 5. So, we of course went to see the doctor soon after his b-day and he said to give it a try. They collected some blood on Wed. to get a baseline and when that comes back (probably early next week) Benji can start eating gluten!!! We'll try it for at least 2 weeks and then test his blood again. Of course if he has the physical symptoms earlier (tummy ache, diarrhea), then we'll know he does have it. We're hoping for the best. Our lives would be much easier if he doesn't have it. We'll let you know how it goes.

Gosh, how nice if he gets the all clear! Hoping for some cinnamon raisin toast in his future (that is what my boys enjoy the most).

Sarah, we can totally relate - Sam has severe food allergies and so his (expensive) diet is also very limited. How wonderful it will be for you to get the news that Benji can eat so much more!! ;) Keep us posted! And thanks for the sweet post on our blog - I totally remember that trip too, and honestly - I think I have gone waterskiing only once since that rainy day in Indiana! :)
