Please Pray

*UPDATE*
Keep those prayers coming!! They are working!! We've had 3 tear free days in a row and sweet Emily has returned! She's been such a joy these last few days and is laughing, loving and enjoying life. We received an email on Tues. from a staff person at her new school in China and it was very comforting to her (and us as well). Here's part of the email:

"I do understand that is very hard to say bye to all the friends over there for Emily. You may tell her that Teacher Alfonso's two daughters are waiting for her coming. Also, my boss' daughter is waiting for her, too. Also, she can have many new friends in here soon.
Emily, welcome to China!
We are expecting your coming.
Go! Emily!
Welcome to our Best Big Family.
See you soon!"

Emily said this made her feel a lot better! Keep those prayers coming though, I'm sure there will be some rough patches ahead.

As we draw closer to leaving (our plane departs on August 6th), our daughter Emily struggles more and more with moving and leaving behind friends and family. Almost daily she cries deep, painful cries and it is breaking this mother's heart. I know without a doubt that we are called to do this but my faith wavers when she describes the pain in her heart to me.

Many of you have asked if there's anything you can do to help us as we prepare to go. This is our most urgent need.......please pray for Emily. Pray that she finds some peace, pray that she understands that goodbyes are not forever, pray that she meets some wonderful friends right away in China, pray that this experience will bring her closer to God and closer to us, pray that she will have a BLAST in China and count it as a life-changing experience. Please pray for us on the 6th. The hardest thing for her will be getting on that airplane; we hope she can remain brave and strong on the flight (or it's going to be a LONG 16 hours in the air!).

Thank you so much,
Sarah

We're on it, my sister. And as an encouragement: a number of kids (mainly teens) at our pre-field orientation who went through a similar struggle ultimately realized the importance of their role in the family's mission overseas. An important piece of that may be for Emily to put together her own team of prayer partners -- a handful of special friends and relatives who are encouraging her and sending her as their representative to the people of China. And a couple of things that have helped Christiaan when he felt a little low after getting here: an email "pen pal" and Skype-ing the grandparents! We love you guys! Congratulations on the sale of your beautiful home! God is SO good!!!

awwww . .. Sarah, this post broke my heart as a mother. I hear you 100%, I can only imagine how hard it is for you to encourage her and hard it must be for her.
I will surely keep you, Emily, and the rest of the gang in my prayers.
Looking forward to hearing how God works in all of your lives as you seek to glorify our Heavenly Father!
Many Blessings & Hugs,
Gwen

Okay, I'm heartbroken for her too! Praying Sarah! This has to be so hard to watch her go through. Praying, praying, praying!

Has she set up her own blog yet? I bet she would love that...she could post her new adventures and then get comments back. Let me know if she does so I can read/respond.
